fortune cookies and parties

After a long and trying trip to Walgreen's to find recital makeup. I caved to the dancing queen's request to eat "at Chi-nez" aka, the local Chinese joint up the road from walgreen's.

So off we went to a most enjoyable dinner, just the two of us. Picking the 'yucky stuff' off of the 'Chinese' pizza and yummy sugared spicy peanuts.

The grand finale to any Chinese (chi-nez) dinner is of course the fortune cookies. Morgan's fortune was something boring, random and very forgettable (as you can tell I've already forgotten or would have inserted here)

Then my fortune. I must admit I do get some rocking fortunes when I go out for Chi-nez...not that any of them have ever come true but they tend to be pretty cool. I tend to keeps these in a safe secure place (i.e. the fridge or my wallet) until the either come true or expire (i.e. I find a cooler, more promising fortune, as you can probably guess the latter happens much more frequently)

Some of my favorite fortunes include you will embark on a coastal journey. Came true went to the Jersey Shore.

Something extraordinary will happen one year from today. Actually nothing happened so we went for Chi-nez again.

You will find a thing, it will be important. It was.

Today's I brought home a new exciting fortune.
You will attend an unusual party and meet someone important.

So...as you can guess I'm super jazzed about this. can't wait to 1. attend and unusual party. I love parties! and 2. Meet someone important. I can only imagine what kind of important this person may be.

Could it be someone famous?
Someone powerful?
The President?
A new friend?
A new more than friend?

Whoever this important person is, and however unusual this party is...I am ready to have a blast.

Cause if you're not having fun...you're probably dead.

applying masacara to a 3 year old....a tutorial

As you may know, Morgan has an upcoming dance recital next week. At her last class we received a handout giving details instructions on the wee ones appearance. The list included what color leotards to wear with the costume (white) how to do their hair; curls. (thank goodness my child already has curly hair, I would have a panic attack if I had to attempt to take a curling iron to my ADHD-esque child. White bow in the hair, oh no biggie!

I'm thinking...ok I can do this...

The list goes on.

Face powder...not a big deal
Blue eye shadow...ok maybe I can borrow some from the old lady down the street...
Red lipstick....ok maybe we can borrow some from the stripper two blocks over...

Then came the kicker..

Are you ready?

Mascara.

Holy Freaking SHIT!

Are you serious??? How the HELL am I supposed to put MASCARA on a THREE YEAR OLD?!?!?!

My mind can't help but drift to the many times I've applied my OWN mascara that have resulted in myself being poked in the eye and not so distant memories of myself hunched over the bathroom sink cursing myself with tears welling up in my eyes wondering if I'll ever see again.

I had visions of my poor child dancing in recital with one or both eyes covered in pirate like patches...my poor pre-schooler struck blind before the prime of her life by an unqualified mom make-up artist...I wonder how much I can pay one of the other much more experienced mom's to apply make up to my child...

So...off we went to Walgreen's to find the supplies. I was bound and determined to not spend much seeing as though I will probably never be caught dead in whore red lipstick OR blue eye shadow I managed to find some lipstick for 99cents. good...goood...I wasn't about to use my mascara on my child...I have an aversion to waterproof mascara and feared that regular mascara on a child would be a disaster. Thankfully it was buy one get one 50% off...so I bought myself some real mascara and bought the lil stage star some waterproof stuff.

Then came the hard part....old lady blue eyeshadow.

Now apparently, blue eye shadow is back, so every shadow I found was a pretty penny. UGH. Finally found a four pack in the discount section. And...actually as much as I hate to admit it, its kind of a cool shade of blue and came with a rocking green, brown and cool sparkly shadow.

WOW....mission accomplished.

And yes...applying mascara to a 3 year old proved quite the challenge, but overall not as bad as I had envisioned.

right outfit right time=free jewelry

I don't plan my outfits. Oh on the occasion I get a wild hare up my ass the night before and plan to wear a certain outfit...and nine times out of ten when I do that, I wind up changing my mind anyway. I'm just a fly by the seat of my pants kinda gal when it comes to clothing.

Today was no different. I wandered over to my dresser and picked out some pants and a nice new red shirt I bought recently. Tissue shirt its called, very light weight, very comfy...which is wonderful since it got to 96 freaking degrees today!

My day was pretty uneventful. Had a casual lunch with a former coworker, gossiped, gabbed and made future lunch plans. Wrote some reports, consulted with coworkers, day dreamed, checked facebook via my mobile of course.

Little did I know that my lassiez faire attitude toward dressing for the day would score me some jewelry. I arrived to pick up my dear young child after work and stopped to chat with my parents about our family trip we are planning later this summer.

My mom must have been studying my outfit for awhile when she summoned me to her jewelery box.
Ooooh, I can't wait

I thought to myself as we walked down the hall.

My mom then presented me with a lovely silver bracelet with three red and white speckled stones that belonged to my grandmother. My mom said my outfit reminded her of it and she hardly wears it. I immediately put the bracelet on and will wear it every chance I get.

I'm lucky to be able to wear my grandmother's jewelery, I'm lucky to have a mom thats willing to part with things she never wears. I'm lucky that my mom trusts me with something that belonged to my grandmother.

Shit...I guess that means I'm like, a real adult now. Responsible and everything, when the hell did that happen??

Ah, oh well here I am all grown up....with my fashion choices landing me heirloom jewelery.

Rock on!
