out of the box

In order to buy myself some much needed study time for my upcoming midterm, I decided to do what any strapped for time single parent would do and use the television as a babysitter. I decided I would pull out the special treat card and offer Morgs up a movie in order to buy some quiet time for myself. Which in turn bought myself a debate with a 3 year old on seasonaly appropriate movies. I occasionaly forget that a 3 year old can rationalize pretty much anything. This is how it went down.

Me: Hey Morgs, wanna watch a movie as a special treat??

Morgs: Of course! (her fav phrase instilled in her by gma Jean) The Grinch!!!! The Grinch!!! I wanna watch the Grinch!!

Me: ummmmmmmm....(thinking back to the 1252 times we watched this in December) The Grinch is a Christmas movie.

Morgs: (looking me dead in the eye) Uh-huh

Me: But its spring time, don't you want to watch something.....springy?

Morgs: Its raining...

Me: (not sure where she's going with that one..) And the Grinch is a Christmas movie

This went on for quite sometime until she brought it

Morgs: Well you have snowflake pants (refering to my uberfashionable fleece pants)

Check and mate

Don't ask me while I felt the need to argue with a toddler, The Grinch is one of my favorite Christmas movies...aww heck one of my favorite movies, and who says we have to only watch Christmas movies at Christmas time. There's no law saying I can't watch Gidget in February...so thanks to the toddler diva crowd to remind us its ok to break the rules and watch Christmas movies and march...and wear snowflake pants!

(I don't know where she gets it from)

tornados and tulips

We walked out of chruch this morning to the theme song of spring. The ear piercing sound of tornado sirens sounding. It had downpoured and was now sunny and windy. The (un)offical beginng to spring.

Later that morning as we strolled to the Y for our family yoga class I got quite the work out walking against the March winds, Morgs noticed the tulips popping up through the ground and leaves beginning to bud. I just love spring...the longer days, the open windows, the lower electric bills. And the promise of weekend trips of camping boating and seeing far away friends and family is near.

Happy (almost) Spring!!

roller derby

Morgan attended her first skating party today, and I might be a little ashamed to admit I think I had way more fun than she did. Oh she tried her best with her big girl skates, slipping and sliding and almost pulling me down on about 17 different occasions. Then she noticed the bounce house...and it was all over. Bouncing her little heart out, I took the oppurtunity to time warp myself back to c. 1989 and raced around the roller rink feeling the wind in my hair. I tell you that was probably the most good clean fun I've had in a long time! I did however pass up the urge to do the limbo on skates...although I did rock out with that as a kid.

fast friends

Morgan: Mama, this is my new friend.

Me: Oh, what is your new friend's name?

Morgan: (shrugs) idunno (turns and skips hand and hand with the new friend)

I took Morgs with me to chaperone a dance for one of our adult DD clients tongight. Thankfully there were a few other kids there and Morgs happened to make fast friends with another little girl about her age. I just love how kids can become instant friends, laughing, hugging dancing and holding hands all evening long without the need to bother with somethin so trival as a name, just happy to call each other "friend". I admire trait greatly in children, especially since that has never been my strong suit.
