If you could go back and live your life over, would you change anything? I was once asked this question in a bible study group. My gut reaction was a very loud internal, "HEll YEA!!"
I've made my fair share of mistakes and poor choices throughout the years. I'd say then 10-12 years following my 14th year I was a complete and total idiot. More so than the normal teenager. In fact I'm suprised sometimes I ever made it out of teenhood alive.
As I thought more about this topic I wasn't so sure as my initial gut reaction. Sure, I made some terrible choices but...I wouldn't be who I am today if I hadn't made those choices, if I hadn't lived through what I've lived though. I think our pasts make us who we are, whether good or bad, we wouldn't be ourselves as we know us without our past.
Experience builds character. Whether rocky or smooth the paths we take shape who we are, what we become, who we infulence and who we know. Some days I would give anything to go back and choose different paths. Other days I realize if I had taken the easy path, would I have the courage and strength that I have today? Would I be who I am today? I wouldn't be.
Now, not being who I am today could be good or bad. Maybe I would be a better person, maybe I would be doing more with my life. Maybe I wouldn't. Maybe taking a better path earlier would lead to a worse path later. Who knows. Who knows where life leads us and why we choose the paths we do. Why do we do what we do?
